Learning languages is an interesting, engaging and academic way to develop an appreciation of other cultures and societies. A wide variety of languages are offered at Auburn Girls High School and students are also actively encouraged to learn languages through the Saturday School of Community Languages as well as the Open High School if an appropriate language is not offered.
In Year 8 all New South Wales students must complete 100 hours of a languages. Students are able to select a language to study for the year. Languages offered in Year 8 are:
Thorough out the year students will learn language and culture. Extension is provided for students who undertake a language that they are proficient in.
In Years 9 and 10, students may choose a language as one of their electives. Currently the languages offered are Arabic, French and Italian.
In Years 11 and 12, students may chose a language to study as Board Developed courses. The following languages are available for study in the senior school:
- Arabic Beginners (eligibility criteria must be met)
- Arabic Continuers
- Arabic Extension 1 (Year 12 only)
- French Beginners
Students wishing to learn other languages are able to do so through the Saturday School of Community Languages or the Note that enrolment in the Open High School needs to be completed in Term 4 of Year 10 with the support of the Head Teacher Secondary Studies.
